Joinery - Stair Treads & Risers

Updated: Sep 19

We take pride in considering every detail during an installation, eliminating, where possible, any elements that could compromise the project’s quality. Traditionally, many flooring companies provide stair treads and risers composed of planks and separate nosings, which are bonded onsite. However, this method can present two key issues: first, an unsightly seam where the nosing meets the tread, and second, a mismatch in color between the stair parts and the flooring, making the difference in materials more obvious. See the image below for an example.

To address this, we decided that this approach was not acceptable for our clients. That’s why we have an in-house joinery team capable of crafting fully bespoke stair components. These are made from engineered oak planks, with a solid nosing seamlessly bonded into place, eliminating the unattractive join line. Additionally, we use the same materials as the flooring, ensuring a perfect color match—whether you’ve chosen herringbone or plank flooring—so your stair cladding blends flawlessly with the rest of your space.

Our system is designed to work with any style of staircase, allowing us to create treads, risers, kites, and winders, all with seamless joints to give the appearance of solid treads. If needed, we can also add side returns with the same nosing detailing, whether they are curved or straight. For those looking to make a statement, we can craft large, curved ends for feature bottom steps.

For particularly complex staircases, we offer a specialized service where a member of our team will visit your site to electronically map the staircase. The measurements are then exported to a CAD system, which we use to CNC-cut the stair parts. This ensures perfectly sized treads every time, drastically reducing onsite fitting times and eliminating the need for cutting during installation.
